But the worldwide economic slowdown has made life more difficult for millions of poor people struggling to feed their families. Wars and natural calamities threaten the lives of millions more. Bread for the World Institute’s 14th annual report on the state of world hunger asks the crucial question: Are We on Track to End Hunger? The answer: A sobering “No.”
The 2004 Hunger Report probes the long-term progress that has been made against hunger and why we’re seeing short-term setbacks now. It assesses U.S. national nutrition programs and international development policies, and offers a set of reforms to get the United States and developing countries back on track.
